baby shark (song)

サメの家族 サメのかぞく BabyShark 상어_가족 상어가족

A children's song about a family of sharks out on a hunt, composed of a little shark, its parents, and two of its grandparents, a grandfather and a grandmother.

Already popular as a campfire song, it exploded into further popularity when a video version of the song by Korean company Pinkfong was uploaded to Youtube in 2015 and became the most watched video in the site in 2021, eventually emerging as the first video to have 10 billion views in January 2022. The said video and its accompanying dance video also spawned a dance craze which started in Southeast Asia and eventually spread to East Asia and later the West around 2018. Japan is a relative late bloomer to this craze thanks to a cover by Uehara Risa released in 2020. Pinkfong subsequently released a Japanese version of the video later in the year.

The original English lyrics merely lists each family member. The Korean lyrics and later the Japanese ones as released by Pinkfong expand on this by describing each member.
