greek clothes

Clothes of the Ancient Greek people during Classical Antiquity (8th century BC to 6th century AD). Or garments styled after those clothes.

Headwear

  • Laurel crown
  • Polos crown
  • Himation (when worn as headscarf)

'Shirts'

  • Chiton
    • 'Doric' chiton
    • 'Ionic' chiton

'Robe'

  • Chiton
  • Himation

'Dresses'

  • Chiton
  • Peplos
    • Apoptygma

'Shawls', 'cloaks' and other wraps

  • Himation
  • Chlamys (tag this as cloak)

Shoes

  • Kothornos (tag these as gladiator_sandals)
    • Sometimes spelled cothurnus, or called buskins.
  • Paxeia (tag these as sandals)
    • Sometimes spelled baxea.

Notable examples

  • Winged Victory Mercy (Overwatch)
    • Alternate skin of Mercy.
    • Wears a laurel crown.
    • Wears a chiton, with a short peplos pinned over it using two fibula brooches.
    • The peplos is an exaggerated Spartan-style peplos, with side slits. This is worn to give a crotch flap or a 'tabard'-like appearance.
    • Most fan artists will not depict the peplos. Instead Mercy's upper garments will be merged into a single chiton 'dress', with the brooch-pins being purely vestigial. Such cases should not be tagged peplos.
      • In such cases, the crotch flap and other dangly cloth bits may often be depicted as wrapped around her other clothes. Tagging himation would be appropriate then.
