In religion and folklore, hell is a place of eternal suffering and torment, meant to punish evil souls in the afterlife. It is the place where demons and other vile creatures reside.

It is commonly depicted as a hot, desolated wasteland with an abundance of fire and lava. The opposite of hell is heaven.
